Birmingham cooks: share your food on Pula

Birmingham has always been held together by food. A tray of jollof for a birthday, a pot of stew for visitors, fresh rotis on a busy evening, a box of patties for the weekend, amagwinya shared with tea, something special cooking before church, mosque or a family gathering. Across Handsworth, Aston, Ladywood, Edgbaston, Smethwick and beyond, so many talented people are already feeding their communities with care.

Pula wants to make it easier for local people to discover that food.

Pula is a free community platform built with a warm, local spirit for the African, Caribbean and wider diaspora community in Birmingham and across Southern Africa. One part of the platform is Pula Food, where cooks, home kitchens and small food businesses can create a presence and show people what they make.

If you prepare food for collection, events, family orders or regular customers, this is your invitation to be seen by more people nearby. Whether you are known for rice dishes, grilled meats, baked treats, vegan meals, traditional favourites or everyday comfort food, your cooking has a place in the community.

This is especially for the people who have grown through word of mouth. Maybe your customers come through church, friends, neighbours, school mums, market traders or people who have tasted your food once and never forgotten it. Pula is designed to support that community connection, not replace it.

Joining is free. Women join free forever. There are no hidden fees, and Pula does not sell user data. The aim is simple: help communities connect with people, services and opportunities around them in one trusted place.

As Birmingham gets ready for Pula's launch at the Library of Birmingham on Wednesday 14 October 2026, this is a good time for cooks and kitchen businesses to come on board early. A clear profile, warm photos and a simple description of your dishes can help local people understand what you offer.
